Obituary

Thomas Gerald Clancy, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Tom was born in Chicago to the late Frank and Helen Brady Clancy on April 9, 1934. Tom is an alumni of Fenwick Highschool and Loyola University in Chicago. After graduation Tom proudly served in the US Marine Corps and remained a strong supporter of the US military throughout his life. He returned home to Chicago in 1958 and met then married his late wife Carol Ann Drexler Clancy.

Tom was a successful newspaper executive that worked his way up at The Chicago Tribune. When he left the Tribune in 1985, he was Vice President of Sales and Director of Advertising and Marketing. His career at The Chicago Tribune spanned 25 years and included some back and forth relocations from Chicago to New York as his sales career progressed. Tom loved skiing and when a Newspaper Executive position presented itself at The Denver Post he moved with his family to Colorado. His love for adventure and sailing later took him to San Francisco, where he worked for the San Francisco Newspaper Agency representing both The San Francisco Examiner and The San Francisco Chronicle as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Everyone who knew Tom remembers a sharp dressed man with a twinkle in his eye and infectious smile. He was warm and funny with a personality that brightened the room.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Clancy; his brother, Francis Clancy; his sister, Mary Clancy Rennie and his loving wife, Carol Ann Clancy.

He is survived by his four children, Tom Clancy Jr. (Celine) of Chicago, IL, John Clancy (Keiko) of Naples, FL, Erin Lowsley-Williams (Mig) of New York, NY and Tara McLean (Hardin) of Navarre Beach, FL and six grandchildren, Bridget Clancy, Rose Clancy, Liam Lowsley-Williams, Donal Lowsley-Williams, Jack McLean and Caroline McLean, all of whom loved him and affectionately called him "Grampy".
