Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Edward James Jacobi, LCDR US Navy (ret.), age 82, was born on September 25, 1934 in Manhattan, NY and passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017 at Life Care Center of Pensacola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Marie Jacobi.

LCDR Jacobi studied at Mount St. Mary's University, Emmitsburg, MD prior to his commissioning in the US Navy. While in the seminary, he learned to speak French, German and Latin which proved to be important in his world travel adventures later in life.

It was while serving in the US Navy that he met his wife of 56 years, Doris McBride Jacobi, who survives. They were married in a military ceremony at the Chapel on the Base in Norfolk, VA on November 19, 1960. Also surviving are five sons, Brian Thomas (Sara-Anne) of Ponte Vedra, FL, Christopher John and Phillip Charles of Gulf Breeze, FL, Timothy Edward of Nashville, TN and Joseph Wayne of Mount Airy, MD; ten grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Olivia, Isabelle, Victoria, Genevieve, Michael, Brandon, Luke and Savannah.

During his military career their first duty station together was in Port Lahore, Morocco, then to Rota, Spain where he learned to speak Spanish and on to his next duty station, Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he learned to speak Chinese. LCDR Jacobi was then deployed to Okinawa, Japan and attached to Commander Task Force 77 in Vietnam where he was the admiral's staff cryptologist for the entire seventh fleet in Vietnam.

LCDR Jacobi lived an extraordinary life. He traveled around the world and was an Eagle Scout along with his five sons. He earned his BA and MBA from the University of West Florida where he studied art and design. He was an accomplished waterman and enjoyed scuba diving, swimming and boating.

LCDR Jacobi chose to be cremated and a memorial service will take place at a date to be determined.
