Col. Thomas Stone Ryan, 95, known by family and friends as Tom, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016.
He was a native of Burlington, NJ, lived in Alexandria, VA for 40 years and retired to Orange Beach, AL in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ethel Sleeper Ryan.
Col. Ryan was a graduate of the Tome School for Boys in Port Deposit, MD in 1938 and Syracuse University, BA and MA, in Syracuse, NY in 1949. During WWII, Col. Ryan was a member of the 5th Air Force which served in the South
Pacific. On August 30, 1945 he observed General MacArthur landing in Japan to begin the occupation. During his first tour of the Pentagon in 1951, Col. Ryan briefed Winston Churchill. From 1954-1956, Col. Ryan served as U.S. Air Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Prague, Czechoslovakia. On August 1, 1968 Col. Ryan retired from the United States Air Force with 27 years of service. He later became a Real Estate Broker in Alexandria, VA. He enjoyed traveling and was also an avid golfer. He will be truly missed and his memory will be cherished by many.
A Memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Azalea Trace Auditorium, Pensacola, FL.
