Thomas "Tommy" Noel Tugwell, 74, of Pensacola, FL passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

Tommy was a life-long resident of Pensacola. His parents were the late Dr. Wilton E. and Virginia N. Tugwell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet "Jan" I. Tugwell. He is survived by his 2 sons, Thomas Noel Tugwell, II and Jeffery Tugwell and a grandson, Joseph Tugwell, all residents of Oregon. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Tugwell (Lynn) of Atlanta, GA, and his sister, Cathy Mellen (Paul) of Hampton, VA. In addition to his direct family he has 2 nephews, a niece, and many cousins.

Tommy was a graduate of Pensacola Technical High School and shortly afterward he joined the US Marines serving for 4 years. His first armed conflict was in the 1965 Dominican Republic operation and then later he served 13 months in Vietnam. During his Vietnam tour he was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division and he participated in 4 major combat operations both as a machine gunner and mortar crewman.

After his discharge from the Marines he soon joined the US Army serving for 8 years in assignments in Germany and the US. During his 2 tours in Germany he was a M-60 tank commander helping fight and win the "Cold War". He was a true patriot and very proud of his 12 years of service to our country.

After his last tour in the US Army he returned to Pensacola where he worked for the city for more than 28 years. His last residence was at the Carpenter's Creek Assisted Living Home on Davis Highway.

After his sons and family, Tommy's biggest love was Alabama Football. There was not a more avid fan and we are sure he will be rooting for the "Tide" from his place in heaven.

The family would especially like to thank Doris Falzone, friend and caregiver, Doug Rogers from the Veterans Administration and the caregivers at Carpenter's Creek for their assistance and friendship to Tommy.

Graveside Committal Service will be held 11:30am Monday, January 8, 2018 at Barrancas National Cemetery, located at Pensacola Naval Air Station (PNAS). Due to Base Security, a funeral cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 11:00am.
