Obituary

Timothy Lee Couch, age 69, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in Pensacola, FL after a brief battle with cancer. Tim, the oldest son of Charles Hicks Couch and Pearl Stewart Couch, was born on January 19, 1955, at Elizabeth Hospital in Prairie Grove, AR. He grew up in Fayetteville, AR and was a 1973 graduate of Fayetteville High School. He attended the University of Arkansas where he met his wife of nearly 50 years, Dorothy Hussey Couch. Tim and Dot met while volunteering at KUAF, the campus Radio Station. Tim always loved music, singing and of course, his Arkansas Razorbacks- "Woo Pig Sooie!"

He began his career as a radio DJ in 1970 while still in high school, working at KKEG in Fayetteville, AR where his on-air nickname was "The Boy Wonder" due to his incredible radio voice. He then worked at KHOG Fayetteville and KBRS in Springdale, AR. In 1977, he started at KRMG in Tulsa, OK and later worked in television advertising in Tulsa. He then worked in sales for WALA-TV in Mobile, AL from 1988-1990 and then transferred to the Pensacola WALA-TV office in September 1990, where he worked until 1999 when he took a position in sales at Salter Outdoor Advertising in Milton, FL; he worked there until his retirement in 2021.

Tim was a long-time member of the Sub-West Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and served in various positions in the Club throughout his tenure. Tim enjoyed helping with Rotary fundraisers, including the Boat Show and the Burger Battle by the Bay. He was affectionately known as "Grandpa" to many of the younger members. Tim was a longtime volunteer with Boy Scout Troops 431 and 608, both in Pensacola. He chaperoned trips to all three of the High Adventure Bases: Sea Base, Philmont, and Northern Tier. He was especially proud of his three sons for all achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Tim also volunteered with Pensacola Children's Chorus and the Washington High School Cross Country Team. At Trinity Presbyterian Church, he was a former Elder and Praise Band member, contributing his talents in both vocals and percussion. He also helped with many youth activities there, including chaperoning the Trinity Lightshine Choir Tour.

Channeling his passions for both Razorback sports and radio, Tim recently became an active contributor to and frequent call-in guest on the Northwest Arkansas sports radio and podcast show The Real NWA JB with host and friend Josh Bertaccini. Further, Tim had a keen interest in genealogy which brought him great joy discovering obscure facts about his family as well as Dot's. Tim was also known as a "weather watcher"; his interest in following weather began to develop in his early days in radio when he chased storms in the middle of the night as part of his role at KBRS in Springdale. This hobby continued for many years, and he recently even took the required test to obtain his certificate, officially becoming a trained weather spotter.

Tim was such a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and uncle. He was and will continue to be so loved by his family, friends, neighbors, church members and co-workers. Affectionately known as "Grandpa Timbo," he was adored and cherished by his eight precious grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearl, and his brother, Keenan Couch.

Tim was kind, patient, thoughtful, and made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He is survived by his wife, Dot, as well as his father, Charles; his sister, Lori Robinson (Russell); brother, Jeff (Ruth Ann); son, Chase (Virginia) and their children, Hill, Walker and Vivian; son, Matt (Mary Ann) and their children, Paul, Mary Scott, and Timothy; son, Thomas (Catherine) and their children, Elizabeth and Victoria; nephews, Christopher, David (Devin) and Alex (Heidi); Charlie Robinson, and niece Emily Robinson (James). He is also survived by other special family members including brother-in-law, King Hussey, first cousin, Eric Leming (Jana) as well as several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
