Ural Wilson King, 83, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017.
Ural Wilson King was born in 1934 in Russellville AL to Porter and Ethel King. He grew up in Mobile AL and went on to college at Perkinston College in Mississippi where he met his wife, Laura Whittingon. They married in February of 1955.
Soon after, he joined the Navy, he became an Airship Pilot and flew out of Lakehurst NAS (he was the last one to pass on). The Navy decommissioned the Airships and he learned to fly helicopters, Tandum and Single Rotor and was a member of The Nightdipper Helicopter squadron. HS C5 was the most highly decorated Helicopter squadron ever in the Navy History. In 1974, he got orders for NAS Pensacola, was the Commander of Schools where he commanded for 8 years, retiring in 1982. He then worked as a civilian flight instructor at NAS Whiting field until the 90's. He loved every minute of his service to this country. He loved flying the most, as well as helping sailors in his command.
His wife Laura and he were married for 62 years. She really was his love and he loved and cared for her.
His brother, children and grand children all live in this area.
A funeral procession will leave Harper–Morris Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm, and proceed to Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola for a graveside service at 1:30 pm.
