IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Valerie Elizabeth
Edrington
June 4, 1936 – April 30, 2024
Valerie Elizabeth Edrington, 87, of Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, FL, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
Valerie was born on June 4, 1936, in Manchester, England to John Scotson and Ruby Reeves-Scotson. She enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood with family and friends about growing up and surviving the war in England, which we all loved to hear. Valerie was a telephone operator in England. On November 17, 1955, Valerie married the love of her life, Richard Edrington who was in the US Air Force. They moved quite often all over the world and she proudly earned her American Citizenship in June of 1968 in Hawaii. While living in Las Vegas, Valerie enjoyed building and fixing Slot Machines.
After her husband passed away in 2006, Valerie moved to Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, FL and she truly loved it. She met many English girlfriends and enjoyed all the adventures it had to offer as well as the wonderful staff, especially Ms. Sharon and the drivers who were so caring. She loved working in the library there and her passion for reading was fulfilled after she lost her sight with the audiobooks that she could listen to for hours. She truly loved to bowl over the years in many different leagues but eventually got to enjoyed Wii bowling with her friends. Valerie also was an avid knitter and participated in a campaign that knitted newborn caps for the babies in the NICU.
Valerie really enjoyed her outings to restaurants, always savoring every bite much to her family's delight and dismay...it could be an hour's adventure with her enjoying every bite!
Valerie was an animal lover and loved our dogs growing up and they always became family members. She even spoiled the grand pups ~ there are many stories about those antics. Over the years, she requested special visits to get her "dog fix", including up to the end. They were very special to her. Valerie was the kindest, sweetest and most giving person you'd be blessed to know. She was a loving wife, Mum, grand mum, and great-grand mum to her family.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her four children, Glen (Kirk), Gail, Lorraine (Michael), and Mike; her grandchildren, Josh (Allison), Krystal (Brian), Coe (Liz), Scotti, Jessica, and Mike Jr.; her great-grandchildren. Ty, Hayleigh, Noah, Luke, Anna, Izzi, Finn; as well as our many family dogs she adored.
We the family would like to extend a special thanks to ALL at Bob Hope Village (too many to list), Emerald Coast Cancer Center, Dr. Alabata, Shalimar's Emerald Coast Hospice, and especially Eglin AFB Hospital staff and doctors.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30am Monday, December 23, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Stephen Linck officiating. Immediately following she will be inurned with her husband at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL.
