Obituary

Vicente D'Angelo 1920-2013 Vicente D'Angelo, 92, of Gulf Breeze, FL transcended to heaven on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born on September 4, 1920 in Chieti, Italy and grew up in the region of the country known as Abruzzo. Vicente was a member of the track and field team in high school and liked running, bicycling, and travelling. He served seven years in the Italian Army during World War II, much of which was spent working on the side of Allied Forces as a prisoner of war. After WWII, Vicente moved to Argentina where he attended technical school, became a mechanic, and opened his own business. While living in Buenos Aires, he met and married the love of his life, Nellie Melizza, and together they had three daughters. Vicente, looking for a brighter opportunity for his children, moved his family to Binghamton, NY where he worked for many years until retirement. He then moved to Florida and made Gulf Breeze his home for him and his wife. Vicente liked to visit Pensacola Beach as it reminded him of his birthplace. He also liked music, loved to dance, and played the piano and accordion. He is preceded in death by his parents, Giovanni D'Angelo and Maria Masciarelli; his two sisters, Lauretta D'Angelo and Maria Domenica D'Angelo De Pompilio; and his wife of over 50 years, Nellie (Melizza) D'Angelo. Vicente is survived by daughters, Marcela (George) Jarush, Adriana (Michael) Rappa, and Rosa (Tom) Decker; niece, Antonietta Pompilio; and seven grandchildren, Matthew Jarush, Walter, Brian, Erik, and Christine Rappa, and Joshua and Alex Decker. He is also survived by great grandchildren and several other close relatives. The Funeral Mass for Mr. Vicente D'Angelo will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, with Monsignor Luke Hunt officiating. A visitation at the narthex of the Church will be held within the hour prior to mass, and interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pensacola. After interment, the family will receive friends at the Parish Hall of St. Ann Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Walter, Erik, Michael, Raymond and David Rappa, and Alex Schwab. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bay Breeze Nursing and Retirement Center, and the staff at Covenant Hospice for their caring service and warm hearts.
