Victor Dale Nielsen, 75, of Pensacola, FL died peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital. His wife of 47 years, two sons, granddaughter, sister and brother-in-law were at his side. Victor was born in Atlantic, IA May 8, 1939 to Lambert and Imogene Nielsen. He and his family moved to Sheldon, IA, then Kansas City, MO where he graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1957. Victor attended Central Missouri State College, then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, and was aboard the USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his marriage and the birth of his two sons, he returned to college at North Carolina State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in History and a Master's degree in Archives Management, while working full time. Victor was then employed as an Archivist at the Alabama Department of Archives and History. He retired to Pensacola in 2007. Victor had a great love for his family and always enjoyed spending time with them. Those of all ages appreciated his sharp sense of humor and his extensive knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. He enjoyed traveling, reading, going to the beach, listening to jazz and many other types of music. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pensacola. Victor is survived by his wife, Christine "Tina" Nielsen; his sons, Daniel "Dan" Nielsen and James "Chris" Nielsen; granddaughter, Lauren Nielsen and sister, Suzanne "Susi" and her husband Dennis "Denny" Shaw. He was also close to many nephews, nieces and their spouses and children whom he loved dearly. A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4600 N. 9th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503 on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 1:00pm preceded by visitation at 12noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
