Obituary

Dr. V. Paul Bruno, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Dr. Bruno was born in Pensacola, FL and graduated from Catholic High School, class of 1943. He served his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Richland (AK 207) and the USS George E. Davis (DE 357). He later attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1949. He received his doctorate from Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, LA in 1954 and returned to Pensacola to practice, retiring after 48 years in 2003. He was an avid golfer and looked forward to playing every week. Dr. Bruno was a member of the Pensacola City Council from 1965 to 1977 and served a term as Mayor Pro Tem. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Michael's Parish Council, the American Dental Association, and the Escambia Santa-Rosa County Dental Association, serving a term as President. Dr. Bruno was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Angela Scarritt Bruno; his first wife of thirty-two years, Mary Sheppard Bruno; his brother, the Honorable Theodore Bruno; his sister, Claire Bruno Stead, and his brother Mr. Daniel Bruno. Dr. Bruno leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Anita Faye Fowler Bruno; his sister, Angela Fisburn of Pensacola; his daughters: the Honorable Patricia Sheppard (the Reverend Dr. Thomas Mikelson) of North Adams, MA, Margaret LeBeau (Dr. Jacque) of Navarre, Ann Ferretti (Dr. Thomas) of Pensacola, Barbara del Castillo (Dr. Hector) of Houston, TX and his sons: V. Paul Bruno, Jr., Harry S. Bruno, and Peter F. Bruno (Sue) all of Pensacola; step-daughter, Dawn Cagle of Madisonville, KY; and 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30am Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Peter McLaughlin celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pensacola, FL. Pallbearers will be Vincent Paul Bruno, Jr., Harry Bruno, Peter Bruno, Rev. Dr. Thomas Mikelson, Dr. Hector del Castillo and Dr. Thomas Ferretti. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Jacque LeBeau, Mr. Kenneth Weekley, Dr. Charles Crooke, Dr. James Reed, Dr. Amos Prevatt, Rear Admiral Charles Moore, and members of the Escambia - Santa Rosa County Dental Association. The family would like to thank Dr. Amos Prevatt for his years of compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave. Pensacola, FL 32504 or to the Haven of Our Lady of Peace (Reverence Court), 1900 Summit Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32503.
