Obituary

Vincent Joseph Christie, born July 17, 1939, passed away on the morning of August 5, 2013. A life-long resident of Pensacola, FL, Vince was known for his love of life, family and a great time. He attended St. Michael's primary school and Pensacola Catholic High School where he graduated in 1957. While at Catholic High, Vince was an all-American in baseball, football and basketball. As the team's star point guard, he even led them to their first state championships. Throughout his life, Vince never failed to know everything there was to know about sports, even if it was just how awful his Cubbies were doing that year. After graduating from Catholic High, he spent several years living on Pensacola Beach, where his makeshift Christmas trees became a fixture on the island during the holidays. Vince eventually settled in as an environmental technician at Air Products in Pace, FL and retired from there in 2004. At the plant, he was given the nickname of the "Uh-Oh Man". Any time there was a problem, he was the one to call. He married Peggy Ann Winter on November 24, 1979 and had a daughter, Amanda McLaren Christie, in 1982. Ever the life of the party, he particularly loved to have a few cold ones, listen to some good music, Elvis and Johnny Cash being two of his favorites, and show off a few of his truly one-of-a-kind dance moves (perhaps shedding a few articles of clothing along the way). However, nothing mattered more to Vince than his family. He was a wonderful, dearly loving and loved son, brother (and brother-in-law), uncle, husband and father, and a great friend to many more. To count how many he touched during his life would be impossible. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Aloysius Christie, his mother, Margaret Donaldson Christie, and his sister, Rose Marie Christie. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his devoted daughter, Amanda; his brothers, Thomas (Tommy) and Gerald Christie and his sister, Margaret (Maggie) Penton, and their families. Memorial Visitation will be held 5-7pm Friday, August 9, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504. In honor of Vince, casual, colorful attire is preferred. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, http://www.kidney.org/donate. While Vince may no longer be with us, he certainly will never be forgotten. One of his only wishes was for us all to know what a great life he had. Holy Cow, Daddy, Holy Cow.
