Virgilio C. Barangan, M.D. passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 18, 2015 following a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1940 in Carcar Cebu, Philippines.
He graduated in 1958 as Valedictorian from Carcar Academy and then graduated the University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine with honors in 1965. His internship was completed at Edgewater Hospital and his residency followed in Internal Medicine at Louis A. Weiss Memorial both located in Chicago, IL. His Anesthesia and Pain Medicine residencies were completed at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, IL.
Dr. Barangan practiced Anesthesia and Interventional Pain Medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL from October 1973 until his recent retirement on September 18, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal Quijoy Barangan and Dorotea Cabungcal Barangan; his son, Glen Joseph Barangan and three sisters, Beatriz Barangan Barazon, Leonor Barangan Baraquia and Catalina Barangan.
He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Laura McKnight Barangan; his daughter, Anai Patricia Barangan; his son, Virgilio Cristobal Barangan; his daughter, Dorothy Barangan Mallis; his daughter, Elizabeth O'Donnell Daza; his two son-in-laws, Austin David Mallis and George Remedio Daza; his ten adoring grandchildren; his two sisters, Visitation Barangan Llanos and Lilia Barangan Comendador; his brother-in-law, Vicente Preglo Comendador and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held 4-6pm Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rosary prayed at 5:30pm. There will be a Private Funeral Mass at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to APPFP, Attn: Dr. Miguel Mancao, 4901 Grande Dr., Pensacola, FL 32504 to support Medical Mission Work in the Philippines which was dear to Dr. Barangan's heart.
