Virginia Jones Rigby, 98, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, surrounded by her children.
She was born on September 5, 1927, in Atmore, AL, to Jackson and Icy Jones. She was a devoted Mother with a wonderful sense of humor. She found fun and laughter even in difficult situations.
Virginia was a talented seamstress whose creativity blessed family and friends for many years. She loved to dance, embracing life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm and grace. She dedicated many years of service as a school secretary.
Following her retirement, Virginia continued serving others as a Sunshine Volunteer at West Florida Hospital. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a faithful member of Olive Baptist Church.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dallas Rigby, and by her parents.
She leaves behind a loving family: the “best brother ever” Bruce Jones; her children, David and Susan Rigby, Rebecca and Ed McBride, Reba and Jack Walters, Karen and Mike Capps, and Donna Rigby and Steve Vodanovich. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews.
Though she will be deeply missed, her example of living with grace, compassion, and joy will continue to inspire all who loved her.
A private family graveside service will be held at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, FL with Dr. Ted Traylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Santa Rosa County Animal Services, 4451 Pine Forest Road, Milton, FL.
