IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Cloys
Wells
July 30, 1925 – September 22, 2021
Virginia Cloys Wells, 96, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully among family on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.
Virginia was born on July 30, 1925, in Union City, Tennessee. She graduated from Vanderbilt University. She was an active Kappa Alpha Theta member throughout her life as well as being a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Virginia was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Pensacola. She was one of the original activists for the formation of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and she supported many environmental causes throughout her life: the Coastal Resources Barrier Act, the Alaskan Lands Bill and others. An active member of the Florida Chapter of the Sierra Club, Virginia determinedly advocated for greater protections to the fragile ecosystems of our beautiful state.
She enjoyed Mardi Gras and was a Gay Masquers member along with others. Virginia was a supporter of The Garden Club, Jazz Pensacola, the Pensacola Museum of Art, the Pensacola Symphony, Vanderbilt University, and more.
Virginia loved to travel from hiking with a backpack in Alaska to walking the streets of Rome with her grandson, Marco and family. She always looked forward to playing tennis and was an avid reader. Virginia loved her bridge friends as much as the game itself.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Wells Todini.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Anna M. Wells; granddaughter, Norma M. Zakroff; grandson, Marco Todini (Chiara) and great grandson, Alessandro.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 27, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church.
