Obituary

Voncile Pittman Myers, 86, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 surrounded by loving family. She was born September 3, 1927 to Joseph Thomas Pittman and Jimmy Lee Jordan Pittman in Robertsdale, Alabama. She graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1945. Voncile met her husband James Douglas Myers at her first job at the Pensacola Navy Yard. In 1950, she began a 43-year career with the City of Pensacola Finance Department, retiring as Operations Supervisor II in 1993. She served as treasurer for the Pensacola Government Federal Credit Union for 41 years. She was a member of many Pensacola social organizations including the Ladies Order of Elks of Pensacola Elks Lodge 497, Pensacola Anna Miller Circle and the Maids of Luna. Voncile was a loyal hockey fan and season ticket holder starting with the inaugural 1996 season of the Pensacola Ice Pilots and continuing to the present with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 39 years, James Douglas Myers; her brother, Joseph Rudolph Pittman; and sisters Irene Foley Harmon and Jimmie Dolee Price. She is survived by her son, James D. Myers, Jr. (Paula); her loving companion of 22 years, Cliff Sunday; a brother, George Herbert Pittman (Ruth), brother-in-law Mardis L. Price and many loving nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Frank Beovich, Bobby Boswell, Rick Edwards, Emery Leonard, George Pittman, Barry Price, Arnie Rosenbleeth and Dennis Staska. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Harper Morris presided over by Monsignor Michael Reed, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice Care Center at West Florida Hospital (www.covenanthospice.org) or the American Heart Association (www.heart.org). Special thanks to Dr. Charles Bryan, Dr. Micheleanne Celigoj, Dr. Luis Navas and the Covenant Hospice Staff at West Florida Hospital for their compassionate care.
