Walter William (Bill or Bi) Johnson, 63, of Pensacola, FL passed away on February 7, 2016 in Pensacola. He was born on June 14, 1952 (Flag Day) to Navy Captain (ret.) Gerald M. & Lillian (McVoy) Johnson.
He led a typical Navy life with frequent moves and many different schools, eventually graduating from McLean High School in 1971. He excelled at football, wrestling and track. He was also a Key Club member in high school. McLean is where he met his high school sweetheart Judith (Judy) Peterson, and subsequently married her on January 20, 1972. They spent a loving 44 years together.
He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and received additional associate degrees in accounting and management from Ft. Steilacoom Community College in Washington State. He worked in hotel/restaurant management, the automobile industry in sales and later was a real estate agent.
He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, all of his family members, relatives and friends. Bill especially loved his three children and was involved with them throughout his lifetime. He always encouraged them in their endeavors and was so proud of their successes. All three children went on to graduate from college. He was instrumental in establishing a Pony League Baseball program in his local community in Washington State where none existed. He enjoyed coaching his two sons in Pony League Baseball, as well as his daughter's softball team while in Tacoma, WA. Bill also coached a team within the NEP baseball league in Pensacola, FL. His other hobbies were camping, fishing, golfing, woodworking as well as watching college and professional football during his lifetime. He was also active in the churches he and family attended, serving as an usher or greeter.
He was preceded in death by his son, Garrett "G" M. Johnson and mother, Lillian (McVoy) Johnson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy (Peterson) Johnson; daughter, Nicole Johnson; son, Nik Johnson; his father, Capt. (ret.) Gerald M. Johnson; brother, Robert (Bob) Johnson; sister-in-law, Karen Johnson; the entire McVoy clan (Pensacola); the Andes family (OR); the Goldstein family (OK, NV, GA); the Rodli family (WA); and entire Brady family (WA & CT).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 2-4pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, FL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday, February 15, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 800 E. Nine Mile Rd., Pensacola, FL with Pastor Jim Locke officiating. Graveside services will follow at Bayview Memorial Park, Scenic Hwy., Pensacola, FL.
