IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wes
Williams
October 19, 1940 – September 20, 2019
George Wesley "Wes" Williams, 78, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, September 20, 2019.
Wes was a Midwestern boy who left the farm to join the Navy and see the world. And see the world he did, throughout a long and adventurous life. On one of his many deployments and duty stations, he met the love of his life, his dear wife of 51 years, Phyllis, and together they lived a life filled with friends and travel.
When Wes retired from the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman Chief Petty Officer (YNC), he and Phyllis decided to retire in Pensacola, FL. His second career was as a Naval Science Instructor at Woodham High School. Once retired from a second career, Wes became a Master Gardener, a contributing member to the Pensacola Historical Society and the Pensacola Heritage Society, and an avid participant in the UWF Leisure Learning group. Wes was interested in just about any topic and was always ready to learn more about the local area as well as the world at large. Wes and Phyllis had a map of the world in their home with a pin for every destination they visited. Together they visited more than 40 countries in Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia, as well as extensive travel in the United States. Wes embraced destinations near and far.
Wes had a huge heart for everyone he met. He was always willing to share a plant or gardening advice and was known in the neighborhood for his beautiful yard and landscaping assistance. He was an animal lover and supported the Humane Society, the World Wildlife Federation, and other organizations. Wes and Phyllis had many pets and their rescue dog, Jasmine, was the queen of the house.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Garland Melvin Williams and Malinda Eliza Herring Williams, and his wife, Phyllis. To cherish his memory, he leaves his brothers and sisters, their families, and many other close friends and wonderful people who had the privilege to know him. Siblings include Ruby Jane Max, Wilson Eslton Williams, Garland "Gary" Albert Williams, Linda Eileen Franklin, Paul David Williams, Thomas Leroy Williams, and DoAnna Marie Rawe. Wes will be greatly missed by all who knew him and we will remember him with love.
Funeral Cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 9:30am Friday, October 4, 2019 for a Graveside Service starting at 10:00am at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
