On Monday, May 7, 2012 life-long Pensacola resident, Wiley Ernest Bratcher, 83, went to be with his heavenly father. Born in Century, FL on June 26, 1928, Wiley moved to Pensacola when he was 6 months old. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1947 and earned a walk-on football scholarship at the University of Florida where he played quarterback his freshman and sophomore year. He went on to become a staff sergeant in the US Air Force, serving from September 1950 until September 1954. Wiley was an avid Gator fan, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of St. Christophers Episcopal Church, playing an instrumental role in starting the Acolyte program in 1965, and running it for 45 years. Wiley loved his church family as much as life itself. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elmina Quina and father, Ernest Bratcher, He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia Baggett Bratcher; loving son Craig William Bratcher and his wife Kimberly Abram Bratcher; granddaughters, Kyleigh Ann Bratcher and Nicole Hale; grandson Tim Boucher; brother-in-law Henry F. Baggett; special cousins Billy & Valerie Cole and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 at St. Christophers Episcopal Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following in the church parish hall. Pallbearers for the funeral will be John Hassen, E.W. Hopkins, Harold Major, Joe Trammel, Billy Cole, Larry Scott, Bill Hayes and Craig Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Labounty, Clinton Arnold, Dr. Reed Bell, Donald Jenkins, H. Britt Landrum, Jr., Tom McVoy, Harold Payne, Ernest McCall, Dr. William Belk, Allen Haddock and Dave Wallace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wileys honor to St. Christophers Episcopal Church, 3200 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32503. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
