William C. "Bill" Bonifay, 85, of Pensacola, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Born June 2, 1928, in the old Sacred Heart Hospital, Bill was a lifelong resident of Pensacola. He attended Sacred Heart School and Catholic High School where he played football and was named most valuable player. He coached City League football and is fondly remembered by many of the men he coached in their youth. After graduating from Catholic High, Bill went to work for Gulf Power Company. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and returned to Gulf Power after his discharge, where he worked for more than 40 years until his retirement. Bill was one of eight children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Bonifay and Hildred Oldmixon Bonifay; brothers, Ralph (Mont) Bonifay, Hubert Bonifay, Clif Bonifay, Clem Bonifay; and sister, Marion (Tookie) Edwards. He is survived by brothers, Doug Bonifay and Jerry Bonifay; nephews Gordon Edwards and Marc Bonifay; and nieces Anne Shirley, Sandra Beard, Susan Hunt and Renee Keyes. Visitation will be held 10:30am until a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Fr. James Valenzuela celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
