Obituary

William "Bill" J. Hefkey, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.

Bill was born to William Harold and Helen Zelasko Hefkey on September 25, 1932 in Detroit, MI.  He attended St. Alphonso's Catholic School until he joined the US Navy in 1951.

He served aboard ships during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After 27 years, Bill retired in 1978, at the rank of Chief Petty Officer; Whiting Field, Milton, FL. During his service, he was stationed in Annapolis, MD; Long Beach, CA; Midway Island; Kauai, HI; Okinawa, Japan; before his final station at Whiting Field in Milton, FL. He lived in Pensacola until his death. Bill lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the "good old boys" at the Spanish Trail and fellow service members at the American Legion Post 340.

It was in Annapolis that he met the love of his life, Helen Scarselletta. They wed on June 13, 1959 and embarked on a journey of 53 years. They are now reunited with their other love ones and we take comfort knowing we will see them again.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; aunts, uncles and in-laws.

He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Hamby and her fiancé Shane Stanley (Mobile); his grand-daughter, Sarah Ann Hamby (Birmingham); step-grandchildren, Ashley Anne Hamby, Clarke Hamby and Elizabeth Hamby (Mobile); his sister, Marilyn Wojick (Detroit, MI); cousins and nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Bill.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 12:30pm at Barrancas National Cemetery. A Funeral cortege will leave Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 12:00pm (noon).
