Obituary

William M. Bill Flynn 1930-2010 William M. Bill Flynn, 80, of Madison, AL (formerly Pensacola) passed away Friday, December 31, 2010. Mr. Flynn was born in Braddock, PA to John and Mary Elizabeth (McCaulley) Flynn. Upon graduation from Scott High School in Braddock, PA he entered the US Army and served during the Korean conflict from 1948-'51. After an honorable discharge in 1951, Mr. Flynn began a 42-year professional career as a manufacturing engineer with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, serving at both its Pittsburgh and Pensacola locations until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Flynn also spent several years teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of West Florida. In one of the final efforts of his professional career, Mr. Flynn was recalled from retirement by Westinghouse in 2008 to assist on a design effort for nuclear reactor internals targeted for overseas markets. Mr. Flynns passions in life were singing Barbershop Quartet, woodworking, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Granddaddys arrival was always the highpoint of his grandchildrens day. Whether it was playing with Hot Wheels cars, Barbie Dolls, catching bugs, or teaching them how to shoot a BB gun, he was their favorite playmate. His presence was a joy to everyone around him and he will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Katis-Flynn; brother, Jack (Kathryn) of Beaver, PA; sister, Beverly (Tom) Lodovico of Beaver, PA; brother, Bob (Jamie) of Palm Coast, FL; son, Joseph (Susan) of Pensacola, FL; son, Michael (Kandi) of Hunstville, AL; son, Daniel (Norma) of Pace, FL; and four grandchildren, Kathryn, Skyler, Shane, and Emma. Visitation will be held Monday, January 3, 2011 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel 2276 Airport Blvd. Pensacola, FL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Pensacola, with the Reverend Monsignor Michael P. Mooney officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia Research Foundation. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
