William M. "Bill" McArthur, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017.
He was born and lived most of his life in Pensacola. He was the son of the late L.D. and Elma McArthur. He attended local schools and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1951. He attended Pensacola Junior College and graduated from Florida State University with a BS degree and later received a Masters Degree from Mississippi College. He was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity while at Florida State, and an inductee into the Pensacola High School Hall of Fame. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Bill's professional career included being a junior high teacher, the Assistant Director of Personnel and the Director of Personnel for the Escambia County School District. Bill was a long time member of First Baptist Church and also served many years on the Board of Directors for the Members' First Credit Union. Bill was a strong advocate for local youth sports. He was a part of the startup of the West Pensacola Little League, he coached baseball for the Bill Bond League and was the scoring table coordinator for local high schools, PJC, UWF and the Tornadoes basketball teams. Bill enjoyed all sports and was a loyal Seminole fan, and lifetime Pirate fan. Bill never met a stranger and had many friends and former colleagues. He enjoyed visiting with friends and seeing people that he had assisted through the years of his work in the Personnel Department. Among his favorite activities were attending the Brownsville Boys' luncheons, the PHS luncheons, and Monday Lunch Bunch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Gregory Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora Rowe McArthur; two sons, Brian Keith McArthur and William Scott McArthur; his 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; as well as a brother, Gerald McArthur, Sr.; a sister, Annette McArthur; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Monday, December 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel, with Rev. Jim Murphy and Dr. Ross Lankford officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Private family burial will be held at Bayview Memorial Park.
