William "Charles" McKamy, of Pensacola, age 64, was called home peacefully as the sun rose on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. He was born in Greenwood, MS to the late William Charles and Mary Adelyn Milam McKamy on June 12, 1954. Charles attended public schools in Glen Allan and Greenville, MS before completing his high school education at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA where he made life-long friends and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Following his graduation Charles farmed for a number of years on the family farm at Chatham, MS before moving to Destin, FL and then on to Pensacola, FL. There he was a communicant and usher at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Charles was affectionately known as "Buck" to his friends. He loved gardening, horticulture, music, and his dogs. Charles was also a coffee expert and aficionado, roasting his own beans and sharing with friends. He fought the significant health concerns of his later years with great courage and dignity.
Charles is survived by his sisters, Charlotte McKamy of Mary Esther, FL and Brucie McKamy Mintz of Chatham, MS; nephew Ben Mintz of Shreveport, LA ; niece Charlotte Mintz Muir (John); and great-nephew Shep Muir of Highlands, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan, MS. The Reverend Carrie Duncan will officiate.
