William Jemison Mims, IV died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, June 30, 2013. A 1959 graduate of Pensacola High School, he went on to the University of the South and remained a proud Sewanee alumnus all his life. A real estate broker by profession, he spent his retirement years nurturing relationships with his wife, Greer Mims, his children and grandchildren. A man of keen intellect and humble nature, he was never happier than when surrounded by his family at numerous gatherings, offering his near photographic recollection of the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or translating Latin phrases from memory. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Mae McCall Mims; brother, James Mims. Survivors include his loving wife Greer T. Mims; brother, Charles M. Mims; daughter, Martha G. Williams (Scott); son, Wm. Jemison Mims, Jr. (Beckie); daughter, Sheldon D. Brinson; daughter, Allison M. Douglas (Scott) and eight grandchildren, Alisha Mims, Meagan Williams, John Brinson, Rhett Williams, Natalie Williams, Madison Douglas, Grace Mims and Mallory Douglas. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from Holy Cross Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jeffrey Jencks officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Mark Kelley, Pete Wood, Scott Frederick, Rhett Williams, John Brinson, Steve Dowell and Gordon Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Britt Landrum, Cecil Lanier and Todd Mims.
