William "Bill" O. Chavis, Jr. died on November 14, 2014 peacefully at his home and is enjoying the fruits of heaven. Bill was born on August 9, 1929 in Port Arthur, TX to Ruth & W.O. Chavis, Sr. A lifelong Pensacola resident, he was the oldest of five siblings and his love for them was always obvious. Family was very important to Bill and distance was never a factor in maintaining those relationships. Family Reunions and fish fry's were his cup of tea. He attended Auburn, was a Seabee and spent his life in Construction, first as a General Contractor and then as an inspector for Escambia County. He enjoyed a full life, valued relationships and never met a stranger. His primary gift which was passed down from his mother Ruth was his ability to love in a nonjudgmental, accepting way. He always had a gleam in his eye, a mischievous smile and was up for anything. He loved dancing, golf, fishing and Auburn. He was a member of the Hadji Shrine the Scottish Rite, a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks 497 and the Moose Lodge. He loved his Moose friends like family and they returned that love. A special thanks to the Moose lodge for the love and care they showed dad. Once again, Covenant Hospice was a gift from God to my family. He is survived by his son, Bill Chavis; granddaughter, Emma Chavis; sister, Betty Lou Barberi and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 5, 2014 at St Mark United Methodist Church, 2203 N 12h Ave. with Rev. Nancy Watson and Rev. Laura Weant officiating.
