William Isaac Parrish, age 89, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018.
William was born on June 28, 1928 in Bardstown, KY and was raised in Simponsville, SC. He graduated from the Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC and began his Naval career as an Aviation Midshipman at Pensacola, FL in 1948. He served as a Naval Aviator and Commanding Officer until his retirement in 1980.
He was a Maritime Instructor at Texas A&M University in Galveston, TX. He then returned to Pensacola, FL to complete a career as a Flight Instructor at NAS Milton, FL. William was active with the Flying Midshipman Association, the Retired Officers Association, F-8 Gunfighters Association, Pensacola Yacht Club and local fishing clubs. He volunteered at the Fleet and Family Support Center as well as Retired Activities Center at NAS Pensacola. He was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Barbara Dillinger Parrish; daughter, Sharon Parrish Lane and brother Julian Parrish.
William is survived by his wife, Bobbie Simpkins Parrish; his daughters, Cindy Parrish Ramage and Karen Parrish Ross; step-sons, Jimmie Simpkins, Joe and Shawn Arganbright Simpkins; step-granddaughter, Julia Simpkins; brother, Yancy Parrish; a sister, Olida Parrish Yates as well as his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 4pm – 6pm Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will begin at 10:00am Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. Walter Kindergan officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
Active Pallbearers will be David Ramage, Matthew Ramage, Eric Ramage, Bradley Ramage, Joe and Shawn Arganbright Simpkins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Ross, David Hartsaw, Eric McDonald and Yancy Parrish, Jimmie Simpkins and William Yates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 18 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32502.
