William (Bill) L. Schorre, 94, Pensacola, FL, died peacefully on May 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was born on July 25, 1921, in Cuero, TX to William and Gertrude Schorre. He was raised on the family farm and was one of five brothers and one sister. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, having served in WW II and Korea. On May 18, 1942, Bill was a survivor of the Battle of the Coral Sea while stationed on the aircraft carrier Lexington. While stationed in San Diego in 1945, he met and married Thelma I. Swift, who was also stationed in San Diego as a WAVE. He made the Navy his career until he retired in June 1964. While in the Navy, he had the enjoyable opportunity to be an extra in the movie, "Wings of the Eagle" starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Upon retirement, the family was relocated to Pendleton, IN, where he began his second career with General Motors and retired in 1984 and returned to Pensacola, FL. He loved to travel and visited 6 of the 7 continents of the World -except Antarctica. Paris was his favorite city and was able to go many times. The family was also able to travel with him to many countries. He very much enjoyed history and was an avid reader of non-fiction. He enjoyed baseball and never missed any games on TV. The Cubs being his favorite team, he never gave up on them even when the team is referred to as the "Lovable Losers".
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, who was laid to rest with honor at Barrancas National Cemetery on May 27, 2016, beside her in a private ceremony.
Bill is survived by his son, William R. Schorre and wife, B.J. of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Nancy S. Rusinko and husband, Lew of Pensacola, FL; granddaughter, Blayne and husband, Bailey; two great grandchildren, Herron and Lael Lewis of Auburn, AL; his sister, Arlene Corner of Cuero, TX.
