IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Permenter,
Sr.
May 16, 1935 – July 17, 2025
William D. "Pinky" Permenter, 90, passed away at his home on Pensacola Beach on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Pinky was born May 16, 1935, to Maggie Ligons Permenter and Pinkey W. Permenter in Tiptonville, TN. He graduated from Tiptonville High School and Draughon's Business College and worked as an accountant for the Tennessee Valley Authority. During that time, Pinky met and was mentored by Alben Barkley, former VP to Harry S. Truman; he had some interesting stories to tell. Pinky went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee at Martin on a football scholarship, and the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. He was and always remained a die-hard Tennessee "Vols" fan. He was a member of the first PEP Program in Pensacola, completing his residency in Obstetrics / Gynecology in 1966. He maintained his medical practice until retiring in 1986. Although he loved and missed the contact with his patients, he needed and was ready to move on to a new venture in his life. Pinky and his wife, Anne, opened a real estate office in DeFuniak Springs, FL where they developed and sold properties in Baldwin Co., Santa Rosa Co., Okaloosa Co., and Walton Co. The business thrived, and he was happiest walking in the woods, scouting out a new piece of property, or driving his bulldozer blazing a trail where a new road should go. He also served a brief term as Medical Director of the Florida Dept. of Health Walton Co., FL. Pinky was a "people person" and enjoyed the many friends he made in every station of his life.
Pinky is preceded in death by his parents and three sons, William, Patrick, & Gregory, & grandson Will.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; and his two children, Doug Permenter (Susan), and Stephanie Pfalzgraf, and 11 grandchildren, David, Jack, Will, and Maggie Pfalzgraf, Zach (Haiden), Steven (Meagan), Joseph, Matthew, Michael, and Winston Permenter, and Elena Hynes; also 3 great- grandchildren, Brooks, Cannon and Walker Permenter. These grandchildren were his greatest joy in life. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Charlie Campbell (Kay), John Campbell (Ann), and sisters-in-law, Carrie Campbell, Kaye Campbell, and Laurie Thigpen (Frank), and his nieces and nephews.
