William "Bill" W. Baxter, 79, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012. Bill was born and grew up in Pensacola. After graduation from Birmingham-Southern College where he met his wife Patsy, he spent a distinguished career in the United States Air Force including time served as pilot of Air Force Two. Upon retirement he became an administrator at Baptist Hospital where he was instrumental in beginning the Life Flight Program. After ten years with Baptist, he was the Legal Administrator with Beggs and Lane for an additional ten years. Bill was very active in the community. He was President of the Arts Council, President of the Opera Board, President of the AMI Board, and a member of the Pensacola Symphony Board of Directors. While a member of the Rotary Club of Pensacola, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Bill shared his singing talent with the Opera Chorus, the Gulf Coast Chorale, and was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Choir for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Baxter and Elizabeth (Baxter) Bell. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Patsy Baxter; three sons, Chris (Magie), Rick (Barb) and Jerry; his three dear grandchildren, Ashley, Wiley and Sarah Baxter. He is also survived by his aunts, Jayne Mackey and Norma Blythe and many beloved cousins. Graveside Committal Service will be held 2:00pm Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial Service will be held 4:00pm Thursday, October 4, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Beall and Dr. Randy Jackson officiating. Reception will follow the service in the Noonan Center at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Music Program, 33 E. Gregory St., Pensacola, FL 32502 or to another charity of choice.
