William K. York, 87, a resident of Milton, FL passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017. He was born on August 29, 1929 in Akron, OH. William studied engineering at Akron College and retired as a senior executive from Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation. During his career he worked on the design of many of the nation's first nuclear power plants and the first nuclear submarine, the USS Nautilis. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Tanglewood Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Leona, originally from Akron, OH, and two sisters; Elizabeth Lafferty, Akron, OH and Martha Halter, Conneaut, OH.
He is survived by his children; Sherry Hollock (Barry) of Cincinnati, OH, Cindy York of Pine, CO and William K. York, Jr. (Jennifer) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, William K. York, III, Alexander York and Ansley York. Others that survive him include, JoAnn Coulter, fiancé and her children, Jacqueline Brown, Randy Coulter and Billy Coulter and 4 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 with Memorial services beginning at 11:00am from Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Chaplain Ken Griffin will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: First Tee of Northwest Florida, 3924 W. Navy Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32507.
