Wilma Irene Earnest, age 95, passed away on April 8, 2015, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, after a short illness. She was born on May 6, 1919, to Bessie Hall Earnest and William Earnest, in Earnestville, Florida, a town which is now called Bay Springs. Irene grew up in Pensacola and attended local schools. She graduated from Pensacola High School in the class of 1936. She was well-known for her delightful sense of humor and her always cheery demeanor. Miss Earnest had a long and successful career in the life insurance business, as a secretary, and later as a broker for the Pan-American Life Insurance Company. She was a valued member of the Professional Business Women's Association for many years. Miss Earnest was a devoted member of East Hill Baptist Church for many years. For over 40 years, she was a beloved teacher of the church's Adult Ladies Sunday School class. She was especially respected and admired for her excellence in teaching and for her extensive knowledge of the bible. She spent her later years at the Carpenters Creek Assisted Living Facility. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers. She is survived by her sister, Myrtle E. Cobb; her brother-in-law, Len W. Cobb; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 1000 to 1100 AM, Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the Harper-Morris Chapel, one hour before the service. The Reverend Ken Griffin will officiate; burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
