Zurlene was born in Andalusia, AL on February 11, 1928. She grew up in Rutledge, AL. She graduated from high school in Luverne and had a bachelor's degree from Troy State and a Master's degree from Columbia University. She had other college work from Florida State University and the University of West Florida. Miss Franklin taught school in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. In Pensacola she taught at McReynolds and Semmes Schools. After classroom teaching she served as curriculum coordinator for Semmes, Pensacola Beach and Brown Barge Schools. Miss Franklin was a member of The Morning Book Club, the Pensacola Historical Society, the Pensacola Museum of Art Guild, the Music Study Club and Kappa Delta Pi. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, on the administrative board and a term as secretary of the board. Zurlene was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Lou and Lehman Franklin, and a sister Melba Franklin. Survivors include numerous cousins. The family will observe a private visitation the day of services at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Monday, May 13, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Pensacola with Dr. Wesley Wachob officiating. A reception for the family and friends will be in the Wright Place at the church following the service. Graveside Service will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Rutledge Cemetery in Rutledge, AL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church. The family would like to give a Special thanks to her special Sitters, Carolyn Boykin and Judy Cardwell; as well as all the staff at the Haven of The Lady of Peace, and a very heartfelt thanks to her special nurse Selena.
