Betty Hual Thornton, 99, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Betty was born on July 19, 1922, in Pensacola, FL and attended local schools and graduated from PHS in 1940. She married Fud Thornton in 1943 and for over 57 years ran "Fud's Flowers" ("Get your buds at Fud's") in downtown Pensacola until his death in 1982. Betty kept the shop for 15 more years after his death. She was active in many Carnival / Mardi Gras Associations and the NWFL Florist Association. She was an active and founding member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fud Thornton; her parents, Lillian Welsh & Hans T. Hual, Sr.; three sisters, Doris, Nellie, and Eunice; three brothers, Harold, Hans Jr. "Bubba", and William "Billy"; as well as a grandson, Blake M. Jernigan.

She is survived by her three children, Diane Thornton Stephens, Jon S. Thornton, and Mark A. Thornton; three grandsons, Todd A. Jernigan (Shawn Marie), Jon L. Thornton (Lauren), and Austin Thornton; a granddaughter, Jessica Thornton; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Jernigan and Ian Thornton; special sister, Lee Raby Hual; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside service will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Bayview Memorial Park with Rev. Susan Sowers officiating.
