The National Cemetery Administration honors Veterans with final resting places in national shrines and with lasting tributes that commemorate their service to our Nation. At Barrancas National Cemetery it is the goal of our staff to provide a dignified service for all veterans and their dependents interred here in our cemetery.
Committal services are held at Barrancas National Cemetery Monday - Friday at the following times.
1. 10:00-10:30
2. 11:00-11:30
3. 12:00-12:30
4. 1:00-1:30
5. 2:00-2:30
Services are only 30 minutes in length and are scheduled consecutively. It is imperative that your party arrives on time and adheres to the schedule so that we may serve all families scheduled that day. We will not be able to hold a service for more than 15 minutes past its start time and no services will be allotted more time. If your party is late by 15 minutes or more, your service will be rescheduled for another day.
What to expect at your service:
A Cemetery Representative will be there to greet your service and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Clergy or Chaplains usually utilize around 10 minutes not to exceed 15 minutes at the start of the service. (Air Force will fold the flag at the start of the service then turn things over to the clergy)
Military Honors will be performed accordingly after the Clergy/Chaplain finishes. Honors will take 5 to 8 minutes.
There may be a few minutes allotted for family to speak but we encourage families to utilize the memorial service for lengthy tributes. Also please note that not only is time very limited but space is as well. There are no tables or stands available for pictures, or slideshows. If you would like to display 1 photo please make sure that your funeral director has the photo and the stand or table you plan to display it on and it can be set up when the flowers are delivered.
All services at Barrancas National Cemetery will be closed casket services.
Up to 3 flower arrangements can be placed at the gravesite, including the casket spray. Please review the Floral Regulations handout for more information about flowers.
The gravesite location as well as the Monument Verification forms will be given to the Next of Kin on record at the service. It is the Next of Kin's responsibility to verify the information listed on the marker and provide the additional inscription if needed, no more than 3 business days after your service. The cemetery staff is available to assist you with the monument verification if needed.
At the conclusion of your service you will be asked to return to your car and exit the cemetery so that we may set up for the next service.
Burial will take place immediately after the service, however because we have other burials taking place in the cemetery we ask that families and friends return after 3:30 pm, when interments are completed, to visit the gravesite.
Facilities:
Services are held at one of two committal shelters located at Barrancas National Cemetery. Your funeral director will be advised of your scheduled location prior to the day of your service.
